Elevate Our Demands to “Free Elections”
MPG Statement to the People of Iran
June 17th 2009
Greetings to our courageous people who have risen up to defend their rights, demanding freedom and filling the streets with life and hope, making history.
Honor to the memories of those who gave their lives, strengthening the resolve of this movement and the perseverance of this resistance.
In these sensitive moments of unity and glory, when the eyes of the world are transfixed on the rivers and seas of our people on our streets and in our city squares, in these days and nights when the pillars of dictatorship have begun to tremble, it is time that the endless ranks of the armies of freedom to demand FREE ELECTIONS.
Dear Compatriots:
Elections fraud in this regime, began with the executions, assassinations and massacres of experienced political figures and promising young activists, a long time ago. It began when freedoms of speech, assembly, association and political parties were destroyed and banned so that we would be limited to a few “choices” from among loyal individuals endorsed by the dictator. The main fraud was a Constitution which legitimized the Guardian Council and many other laws and institutions which discriminate, outlaw and control democratic and human rights, carefully closing loopholes for free elections. What we see today, is just another arrogant and humiliating episode of crushing our rights and pouring salt on our wounds.
It is time to demand full and complete free elections as we rightfully demand the abolition of the results of the current elections. It is time to demand a fair basis and a level field for free elections: Freedoms of speech, assembly, press and media, political parties, freedom of political prisoners and fair financial competitiveness; election laws free from discrimination based on gender, thought, religion, ethnicity and under the supervision of the United Nations. It is under such circumstances that we shall see who the nation’s choices are and what the people want.
The MPG party, encourages all its followers and activists and all Iranians striving for freedom to take this basic and historical demand to the people and to make it their main slogan. This should be done within the unified ranks of the people in the streets and in conjunction with our common sprit of civility, hope and unity.
The MPG was born from the womb of the student uprising of 1999 and has grown among you experiencing the joy of our common victories and the sting of treasons of the past. We caution all our compatriots to be wary of the behind the scenes negotiations going on right now among the dictatorial factions of the regime and to be mindful of the “friends” who may leave us out in the cold. We encourage all to take risks and spend their energy with the goal of fundamental freedom for all.
The time for minimum demands has already passed in the very few days of global attention, our massive participation and the dictators delay tactics. We must elevate our demands according to our enhanced power today. Let’s not give the dictators the time to rethink, regroup and prepare for their planned crackdown. Let’s change tactics and lets keep mobile and connected. Victory will be ours.
Resist their tactics, resist the shutting down of communications, resist their expropriation of satellite equipment, don’t let them prepare for a crackdown. The world must keep watching and we must watch the world, otherwise their crackdown will happen immediately. Cry out for FREE ELECTIONS.
